Description/Overview:
             The Chimera class was chosen by the Jovian Defense Forces as the main shuttle and fighter carrier for their Extra-Solar Expeditionary fleets.  A refit version, with six plasma engines replacing the four main ion engines, and Ion Plasma Fusion Furnaces replacing the old Fusion Reactors, was essentially the same vessel as the Chimera class.  Unlike most of the other ships in the emergency rearmament fleet, the Altair did not carry battle robots, but instead carried its old complement of space fighters in order to give battle robot forces aerospace support should the battle robot forces need it on a planet or planetoid.  Protean fighters were NOT used on these ships or in the Extra-Solar Expeditionary fleets because the JDF did not want any potential alien powers that may exist outside the solar system to become familiar with the best weapons in the JDF arsenal because the JDF believed such a power would create a countermeasure for it.
