Overview of the United Nations Space Corps
The United Nations Space Corps (UNSC) was the military arm of the Marxian-socialist United Nations during their conquest of the inner sphere of the Sol star-system. The UNSC was formed in 2052 AD from the space agencies of Europe and Asia. Under the command of Admiral Kai Tengin, the UNSC was the most powerful spacenavy in the Sol star-system from 2055 AD to 2072 AD.
Through Admiral Tengin’s policies, the UNSC created multiple planetoid bases and established clear shipping routes between their colonies. Admiral Tengin was also responsible for the establishment of the mining colonies in the asteroid belt and creating navigable routes through the asteroid belt to Jupiter.
Admiral Tengin lost his life during the second Battle of Juno in 2062 AD by USSN forces defending that planetoid. Tengin was replaced by Ace Pilot Colonel Alphonse Zhukov. Zhukov became the youngest Colonel in UN history by achieving that rank at only 24 years of age at the eighth battle of the Western hemisphere over Earth. He beat this achievement in 2062 AD when he was promoted to Supreme Commander of the UNSC, by Prime Minister Charles Dalltan, for his valiant efforts in the second Battle of Juno.
Under the leadership of Admiral Zhukov, the UNSC began to focus its efforts on space exploration and colonization of the outer planets and their moons. Zhukov personally oversaw the UNSC’s secret project to send a mission to Alpha Centauri in 2066 AD. The discovery of the alien ship depot was initially kept secret from the Solar Empire Soviet Council as was the loss of the alien heavy space battleship to the Earth Forces due to a mishap.
After the discovery of the alien fleet, Admiral Zhukov became convinced that the aliens might still exist and that they were a far greater threat than the Earth forces. Zhukov himself informed the council of the existence of the alien fleet in 2071 AD, but not his suspicions about the status of the alien race that built it. Instead, Zhukov informed the Solar Empire Soviet Council about the surviving US forces and the threat they posed. The Solar Empire Soviet Council ordered Zhukov to have the UNSC simply contain the Earth “rebels”, not to actually engage them. The Soviets were convinced the EFR would not be able to wage war against them for some time. As the Soviets had no idea the Earth forces had both a newly developed advanced space fleet and an alien heavy space battleship in their possession, they rejected all of Zhukov’s requests for newer, more advanced warships.
When the EFR launched its all-out attack against Ceres in March of 2071 AD, the Solar Empire was taken completely off guard. The UNSC had essentially lost is space superiority in the Battle of Ceres and was hard pressed to retain it afterwards. Zhukov had used the loss of Ceres to sway many UNSC commanders over to him as he weeded out the “Soviets” from the “Zhukovists” in his command.
After the Battle of Ceres, a formal inquiry was held by the Soviet assembly. The Soviet high council blamed Zhukov for what they termed “Supreme Incompetence.” Zhukov was stripped of his command of the UNSC and arrested. He was subsequently sentenced to an indefinite term of prison at the Deimos Gulags of Mars. This new development only worsened the burden of the UNSC. Vice Admiral Edric VonStalin was promoted to Supreme Commander of the UNSC in October of 2071 AD by Prime Minister Charles Dalltan.
When the EFF SpaceNavy proved its superiority again at the battle of the planetoid Apollo in April of 2072 AD, VonStalin called for the creation of a more advanced fleet of warships and the resurrection of "Project Ironclad."
This project had been initially proposed during the Juno conflict of the 2060s when the USSN developed and produced the Juno class frigate: a 2500-ton space warship that was the model for the entire EFF SpaceNavy.
Initially, the Solar Empire Soviet Elite Council refused him. This time, however, the evidence was incontrovertible; the UNSC had to have a new force of warships with which it could launch an effective counterattack.
Upon assuming command of the UNSC, Supreme Commander Edric VonStalin commenced a full-scale counterattack against the EFR. Ultimately, this counteroffensive culminated in January of 2073 when the UNSC launched "Operation Blitzkrieg", which was the invasion of Ceres and the Earth sphere. The operation was initially a success, but the momentum of the thrust by UNSC forces was too little too late. The EFR had gained insuperable strategic advantages after they had crushed the UN forces on all of the planetoid bases of the UNSC between Earth, Mars, and Venus. There was no way for the UNSC to continue to supply their ground forces and planetary assault fleets. By November of 2074 AD, the entire UNSC invasion fleet was routed from the Earth sphere and either retreated to Ceres or Mars.
As their fleet of warships was being diminished faster than it could be replaced, the UNSC, under the direction of Edric VonStalin, fortified Mars and Venus. The veteran UNSC commanders began demanding that Supreme Commander VonStalin do something about the growing discontent amongst their soldiers and crewmen over the failures of the Soviet Elite.
VonStalin set Soviet Lady-Chairman Isabeau Furrier's Pluto colonization plan into action in early 2075 in preparation for the inevitable defeat of the Solar Empire as large numbers of UNSC warships and personnel were sent off to the Pluto sphere and Ort Cloud.
The Soviet UNSC forces were officially disbanded in 2076 AD at the final battles of Mars when the combined Zhukovist and EFSM forces overran and decimated the last remnants of the Martian Orbital Guard fleets and invaded the Red Planet.
