             The PI-02 Raven was able to carry bombs, missiles, gunpods, and armor upgrade systems on externally mounted hardpoints.  These hardpoints were located at strategic positions all over the craft.  There was one large hardpoint on the outer side of each leg.  Each of the leg hardpoints was able to carry up to ten tons of ordinance.  There were two “chest” section hardpoints designed for up to ten tons of payload each.  There was one arm hardpoint per arm, each of which was designed for up to five tons of additional armor/systems, and the top of the I-Field generator blisters on the trailing edge of each wing also had a 10-ton hardpoint for additional armor or booster systems.  This gave the craft a maximum payload of 70 tons.

Description/Overview:
         The Iapetus team originally conceived the PI-02 Raven Protean space interceptor as a light space bomber for the EFSM assault on Mars in 2076 AD.  They dubbed the initial design the PB-02 Protean bomber.  However, General Walsh had chosen to put off the Protean design in favor of the HBR-01 series of heavy battlerobots.  The team shelved the PI-02 until the JDF formed in 2077 AD, and the Saturn Fleet called for the creation of a fighter that could intercept enemy units before they could enter the Saturn sphere.  This led Iapetus Industries (a newly formed Macrotechnologies company) to revisit the old PB-02 idea and rework it into a much smaller version of the 70-ton bomber design the EFSM engineers had originally created.  The Iapetus design team used the very successful Earth Federal Republic HSF-01 heavy spacefighter as the basis for their new transformable interceptor.  The result was the PI-02 Raven.
         The Raven first saw action almost as soon as the initial production models had rolled off the assembly line in 2077.  The PI-02 was a key weapon used the during the Battle of the Vesta Kirkwood gap in 2077 when the JDF came to the aid of the fleeing EFSM fleet that was under assault by the Earth Federal Space Navy armada.  During this battle, the PI-02 destroyed enemy fighters, battlerobots, and spacecraft with a high rate of success that even the PS-01A Archangel could not match.  The performance of this fighter ensured its continued production and use in the Saturn forces for many decades afterwards.  The only major drawback of this fighter was its price tag.
      The PI-02 used a DængJäger RWE-160 160-megawatt robot walker engine as its only ground propulsion system.  This walker engine propelled the large 50-ton Protean fighter at a modest 40 mph.
      The main interplanetary engines of the PI-02, and its claim to fame, were a pair of MacroTechnologies IPFE 80-megawatt ion plasma fusion engines capable of propelling the space interceptor at speeds of 8444.4 miles per second individually or 16,889 miles per second combined.  This gave the interceptor the ability to fly faster than most of its contemporaries and allowed it to be launched at great distance from its carrier, spacestation, or planetary base.
         The combat engines of the interceptor were a pair of Stellar Dynamics SD-ID-10 10-megawatt high yield ion engines.  Each of these engines produced enough thrust to propel the interceptor at speeds of up to 15,200 miles per hour or 30,400 miles per hour combined.  This pair of engines could be used in either mode of the fighter, but was normally only used in robot mode.
         The primary long-range offensive weaponry of the PI-02 was her combination of Pallas Arms PA-MM105 and Pallas Arms PA-MM205 mini-missile launchers.  The PA-MM105s were 5-shot launchers, while the PA-MM205 were 20-shot launcher racks.  These launchers were usually used in unison and their missiles fired in volleys of various numbers depending on the size and count of the enemies the pilot faced.  These missile launchers carried a combined total of 500 mini-missiles, enough for two full volleys of 180 from all the launchers and one volley of 140 from the 5-shot launchers.
         The medium-range weapons of the PI-02 were a pair of Saturn Arms SA-RFE-05 rapid-fire EMPAC guns mounted on the forearms of the Raven in battlerobot mode or on either side of the cockpit of the interceptor in fighter mode.  This pair of electromagnetic particle accelerator cannons was rapid fire and could inflict devastating damage to other mecha and spacecraft.  Pilots of the PI-02 normally employed these cannons against other fighters during dogfights and against spacecraft in strafing attacks.
         The close-quarters weapon of the PI-02 was its Titan Technologies TT-GP493AC triple-barrel 49-millimeter gunpod unit.  This autocannon gunpod was originally intended to be the main weapon system of the spacefighter, but by the time of the inception of the PI-02, the range of battlerobot weaponry was already beginning to increase with the introduction of beam weaponry.  Although the TT-GP493A had a range on only 1.3 miles, it was still a very formidable weapon against other battlerobots and up close against enemy spacecraft.  This gunpod was used in place of a proximal weapon for the interceptor whose mission it was believed would not require a battlerobot-scale melee weapon.
         The weapon system originally intended for use as a proximal weapon was a pair of Iapetus Arms IA-PC-01 PHELAC guns mounted in the head of the machine in battlerobot mode.  This deadly duo was more useful as an anti-missile defense weapon than a melee armament.  However, some pilots learned to employ the head PHELACs as a means of keeping an enemy mecha from closing in to use whatever handheld weaponry it had, which made the pair of phased energy laser cannons very desirable to have.
         The defense systems of the interceptor consisted of two Pallas Arms PA-AM282 28-shot missile launchers that fired 2-pound anti-missile bomblets.  These bomblets were a moderately effective defense against enemy missile weapons.  The PI-02 had a pair of Macrotechnologies IF-30 30-megawatt ion field omnidirectional generators mounted on the trailing edge of the wings of the Protean interceptor. These I-Field generators could each cover only one arc of the craft at a time allowing two arcs to be covered simultaneously, or both generators could be used to cover one arc with a dual layer of protection.  These I-Field generators were effective against nearly all types of battlerobot-scale energy weaponry and light to medium spacecraft weaponry.
         The last line of defense of the PI-02 was its medium combat shield.  This shield provided excellent protection against autocannon and rail cannon rounds as well as beam weaponry.
         The PI-02 Raven Protean interceptor was built in large quantities despite its high cost for a spacefighter.  The Saturn Forces produced 9000 of these fighters per year for fifty years starting in 2077 and ending in 2127 AD.  Most of these interceptors were launched with the colonial fleets that left Saturn at a rate of one per year starting in 2082 AD.
