Description/Overview:
             The Borodino class Battlecruiser was originally conceived of in 2060 AD as a command cruiser/battlecarrier.  The Borodino was shelved after the UNSC determined its cost did not merit production of the craft, as their fleet of assault shuttles was adequate to deal with the meager fleet of USSN ships of the 2060s era.  However, once the EFSN armada had begun decimating the UNSC assault shuttle fleet during the outbreak of the 1st Interplanetary War, the new Supreme Commander of the UNSC, Edric VonStalin, demanded the construction of the “Project Ironclad” fleet of warships and, in particular, the Borodino class.
             The Borodino class lost its carrier capabilities during its redesign in 2072 AD in favor of heavy energy weapon emplacements, moderately fast ion engines, and deflector field generators.
             The Borodino was built in small numbers during the 1st Interplanetary War due to the Solar Empire’s internal problems and insistence on having these valuable ships be built only in Mars orbit at Phobos.  After the 1st Interplanetary War ended, the Mars Colonial Republic built an unknown number of these craft for their Orbital Guard fleet.  Most of those craft were destroyed when Ceres invaded the Mars sphere during the Ceres Conflict.  When the conflict ended, many of the ships that survived the conflict were decommissioned and mothballed at Deimos.
